Redfin Promotes Bridget Frey to Vice President of Engineering

Monday, July 30, 2012

SEATTLE, July 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Technology-powered real estate broker Redfin (www.redfin.com) today announced that Bridget Frey has been promoted to the position of Vice President, Engineering, reporting to chief technology officer Sasha Aickin. She was previously the Director of Data and Analytics Engineering. In her new position, Ms. Frey leads Redfin’s Commerce, Marketplaces, Data, Network & Systems and Quality Assurance teams.

Redfin’s engineering organization is growing quickly, with seven engineering positions currently open in Seattle, and five in San Francisco. Today, Redfin’s software developers, quality assurance engineers, and operations engineers work on products like RedfinOpenBook, a directory of lenders, inspectors and stagers; the Redfin HomePriceTool, which lets Redfin users price their own home; and Redfin Deal Room, which guides Redfin’s customers through the escrow process.

“At Redfin, we’re reinventing one of the largest and most important industries in the country: housing,” said Ms. Frey. “At the customer level, we’re helping to make buying and selling homes more efficient and convenient. We come to work every day knowing that our work has a positive impact on one of the most significant financial events in people’s lives.”

Ms. Frey was hired in August 2011, and quickly distinguished herself by developing the systems that allow Redfin to store and analyze enormous amounts of brokerage data, and to use that data to create a better experience for customers.

“Since 2011, Redfin’s research and development organization has nearly doubled in size,” said Redfin CEO Glenn Kelman. “We hired and then promoted Bridget because she has the big-data chops to develop real-time recommendations on which home a customer should tour in person, or which step she should take next over the course of a one-year home search. As Redfin’s technology charter expands beyond listing search to make every step of the home-buying process more convenient and well-informed, we also needed an engineering executive with a broad vision, to hire new teams and launch new businesses. Luckily for us, Bridget is an implacable force of nature.”

Prior to joining Redfin, Ms. Frey was director of analytics and business applications for Lithium Technologies, where she was responsible for applications and tools used to manage, moderate, measure, explore and grow online communities using Lithium’s flagship Social CRM product. Ms. Frey was also vice president of development at IntrinsiQ Research, a chemotherapy software company, where she managed development, quality assurance, technical support and product management.

Ms. Frey graduated magna cum laude from Harvard with a degree in computer science. She enjoys training for and running half marathons, decorating cakes and spending time with her two children.
