Market leader offers 2.0-compliant solutions for today, looks ahead to future generations focused on making Carrier Ethernet more scalable, reliable, dynamic, and simple

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, February 23, 2012 – Overture, the preferred Carrier Ethernet edge and aggregation partner for service providers and network operators worldwide, said it welcomes today’s announcement of the MEF definition for Carrier Ethernet 2.0, the next generation of Carrier Ethernet. Unveiled by the MEF and Ethernet co-inventor, Robert Metcalfe, CE 2.0 identifies a set of important new extensions to the first generation of Carrier Ethernet – now referred to as Carrier Ethernet 1.0 – that includes global interconnection standards, class of service, and service management features not present in the original.

“The emergence of Ethernet as the preeminent technology for communications services has been a boon to businesses and consumers around the world. Without today’s standardized, high-bandwidth, low-cost Ethernet connectivity, the development of many of our essential ecosystems, including the Internet and corporate networking would have been stunted,” said Jeff Reedy, CEO, Overture. “Built on the firm foundation established by MEF-compliant first-generation Carrier Ethernet technologies, Carrier Ethernet 2.0 signals a new wave of innovative services and applications that Overture and our customers are enabling.”

Overture previously achieved generation 1.0 certifications MEF 9, 14, and 18, and its solutions are already Carrier Ethernet 2.0-compliant. As the MEF creates certifications for 2.0, the company will demonstrate compliance through their certification program.

“We are fortunate to be working alongside our progressive service provider customers in the early shift to Carrier Ethernet 2.0, allowing them to deliver a better customer experience using class of service, performance monitoring, and wholesale interconnections. As we look to the future, we expect to bring even more improvements in those areas and to work with our customers to create an Ethernet that is even more scalable, reliable, dynamic, and simple,” added Reedy.
