Nordic Edge Partners with Palo Alto Networks

Thursday, October 13, 2011

SANTA CLARA, Calif., September 15, 2011 – Nordic Edge, a subsidiary of Intel, has announced a formal partnership with Palo Alto Networks, the network security company, to offer integrated solutions in IT security and identity management.  This partnership allows both parties to address rapidly evolving customer requirements in complex environments in which there are increased demands for security.
The Nordic Edge One Time Password server is an easy-to-deploy, highly secure solution for strong or multi-factor authentication, and an essential tool for securing remote network access with mobile users.  Nordic Edge provides the widest range of strong authentication options, including OATH-based USB hard tokens, and SMS, email, chat and Smart Phone soft tokens.  Its Pledge product is an award winning mobile client that generates OATH-based one-time passwords, turning a Smart Phone into a highly secure authentication token.  Generating an authentication factor out-of-band in this way constitutes one of the most effective methods to prevent fraudulent network access.
“With the increasing reliance on mobile devices and applications for business use, IT administrators are being called upon to solve new and complex security challenges without compromising usability or performance,” said Jim Carlsson, CEO of Nordic Edge. “We are excited to partner with Palo Alto Networks to deliver strong authentication in an easy-to-use and reliable way, and to provide users with a variety of different authentication delivery methods to choose from.”
Palo Alto Networks' next-generation firewalls enable enterprises to identify and control applications, users, and content—not just ports, IP addresses, and packets.  Their identity technologies enable application usage based on the user or user group; strong authentication provides identity assurance for secure access to both the network and authorized applications.
“Enterprises worldwide view us as an essential vendor in their networks and we will continue collaborating with our industry’s best-in-class vendors to ensure that customers can reap the most from their network security investments,” said Punit Minocha, vice president of corporate and business development at Palo Alto Networks. “One example of this is how we provide customers with joint solutions that converge strong authentication with identity-based perimeter security policies to deliver truly comprehensive identity management.”
One of the customers using Nordic Edge and Palo Alto Networks joint solution is Mangold Fondkommission, a transaction intensive financial advisor.
“We are very happy with our Nordic Edge One Time Password solution for strong authentication to our Palo Alto Networks NetConnect SSL-VPN. Mangold now has the ability to deploy and share network and authorized applications to international workforce with high level of security and convenience. Using SMS and mobile phones as delivery mechanism for OTP’s suits our international field organizations perfectly,” said David Jansson, IT Manager of Mangold Fondkommission. “We’re not only saving on administration, we are also getting a higher level of security since people are very good at keeping track of their mobile phones.”
