New CEO Brings Entrepreneurship and Executive Management Experience; Co-Founded RF Magic, A Successful Fabless Radio Frequency Semiconductor Company
LOS GATOS, Calif., Jan. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Amalfi® Semiconductor, a developer of high-performance CMOS Radio Frequency (RF) and mixed-signal semiconductors for cellular mobile handsets, today announced that Mark Foley has joined the company as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).  As the co-founder and previous CEO of RF Magic, Foley brings proven management experience, knowledge and vision in the RF semiconductor industry targeted at high volume consumer electronics to Amalfi Semiconductor.

"In our search for a new CEO at Amalfi, we were looking for a combination of management qualities and industry experience that would help grow Amalfi into a multi-million dollar company and a leader in the industry," said Ken Lawler, Amalfi Board Member and General Partner at Battery Ventures.  "Mark brings over 20 years of experience in the RF component industry and has a proven track record of growing a company from inception to a multimillion dollar high gross margin business.  We are confident that with Mark's experience and our advanced technology that Amalfi will be the market leader in power amplifier modules for cellular handsets."

Foley has over 28 years experience as an entrepreneur and executive in the RF semiconductor and component market.  Most recently, Foley was the CEO of NuTune Singapore Pte. Ltd, a joint venture between NXP Semiconductor and Technicolor for the development of CAN tuners for televisions and set-top boxes.  Prior to NuTune, Foley was the co-founder and CEO of RF Magic.  As the CEO, Foley successfully built a viable, diversified semiconductor company with multiple product lines and eight consecutive profitable quarters.  The Company eventually merged with Entropic, where Foley took the position of President and Chief Operating Officer and was instrumental in leading a successful Initial Public Offering (IPO) that raised $50 million.  Prior to co-founding RF Magic, Foley worked in management and engineering positions in several RF semiconductors and component related companies, which included Conexant Systems, Inc., ComStream Corp., Adams-Russell Electronics, Inc., and Ford Aerospace.

"Amalfi has shown great success in revolutionizing and improving the performance curve of power amplifier technology in cellular handsets," said Mark Foley, Chief Executive Officer of Amalfi Semiconductor.  "As the new CEO, I am looking forward to working with an excellent team of engineers and managers in furthering the success of the company, and the development of CMOS-based power amplifier chips that will lead the industry in integration and performance and provide a road map for reducing the system cost of our customers' products."

Amalfi Semiconductor is an emerging leader in advanced power amplifier solutions for cellular handsets.  In 2009, the company launched the industry's first, and highest performing CMOS transmit module.  When compared to traditional GaAs transmit modules for cellular handsets, Amalfi's leading-edge product offers better performance and a significant cost savings to its customers.  Amalfi's products are currently shipping in millions of units per month to leading cellular handset manufacturers.  (CMOS and GaAs are semiconductor process technologies.)
