"Working in a team is aligning behind a common goal, driving toward a common purpose, and ensuring that no one gets left behind." |
Vivek Shah
Associate
As an Associate at Globespan, Vivek supports deal sourcing, evaluates investment opportunities, conducts due diligence, and provides portfolio company assistance. Based in Palo Alto, Vivek brings expertise in strategic analysis and a life-long passion for technology to help the firm’s entrepreneurs succeed.
Vivek co-founded two start-ups of his own while still in college. This immersion in technology and entrepreneurship at a young age provided valuable and well-rounded perspective, insight and understanding into clients’ struggles as they build new companies. He describes his early experiences as giving him, “…the passion and patience it takes to be an entrepreneur.”
Prior to joining Globespan, Vivek was a Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company, where he worked with leading technology companies in the IT services, telecommunications and consumer electronics industries. While at McKinsey, Vivek focused on product development, sales and marketing strategy, and corporate organization.
The two start-up companies Vivek co-founded before joining McKinsey are TheUrbanFork.com and SharpEdge Studios. For TheUrbanFork – an online food ordering website – Vivek worked on marketing, sales pitches, business development, and website programming. At SharpEdge Studios, Vivek led the programming team to develop a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) that could be played on any platform (e.g., desktop, browser, mobile).
Vivek’s two guidelines for how he conducts himself with partner entrepreneurs are simple: “Would I invest my own money into this deal?” and “Would I work for this company and this entrepreneur?” He also credits Globespan colleagues with showing him that the most essential element to a successful business is the team.
Vivek graduated with double BS degrees in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science and Management Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). While at the university, Vivek was the managing director of the MIT Technology Fair and brought it from a small fair of 10 sponsors, to MIT’s largest technology showcase with more than 80 sponsors and 3,000 attendees. He continues to be active with the MIT Club of Northern California and McKinsey & Company Alumni. To relax, Vivek enjoys rock climbing, community service and playing the ancient game of Go with friends.
